New laboratory named for Kisby
A new laboratory in the College of Kinesiology that will focus on physical activity and health promotion research has been named for Russ Kisby, the past president of ParticipACTION.
At a ceremony June 19, Kinesiology professor and Canada Research Chair Larry Brawley said he and his team will use the lab as a testing site for projects related to older adults and physical activity, particularly as it relates to adults with diseases like osteoarthritis, multiple sclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
Engineers benefit from donation
A $100,000 donation from Moose Jaw Asphalt and its parent company, Gibson Energy Ltd., to the University’s Thinking the World of our Future campaign will enable research in the Department of Chemical Engineering to develop systems to deal with petroleum contaminated soils and sludges.
Mike Collins, a U of S commerce graduate and president of Moose Jaw Asphalt said at a ceremony May 31 the research funded by the donation will help the company in its effort to remediate its plant site. “In addition to funding, we will provide the project with a perfect venue for testing the technology.”
The Moose Jaw firm is a producer of road asphalt, roofing flux, well site fluids and light products that are distributed across North America.
